About the event
We're back! Come to Strongroom Bar on October 22nd for this year's Cinema Rising Halloween event. Experience the synth-infused mania of Eckhart Schmidt's Der Fan (1982), plus live music from Tam Lin.
In Eckhart Schmidt's Der Fan, Simone, a teenage girl played by Désirée Nosbusch obsesses to the point of delirium over the pop star R (Bodo Steiger). When the two finally meet, things don't go as expected for either party. A horror-thriller in the style of Andrzej Żuławski's Possession and Takashi Miike's Audition, Der Fan explores the relationship between celebrity worship and fascism, a provocation that ignited significant controversy upon its release in West Germany. Aside from any political reading, the film offers an abundance of lurid thrills and an insanely catchy synth-heavy soundtrack by the group Rheingold.
Given the film's musical inclinations, we'll be preceding the film with live music from the artist Tam Lin.
